Friday Faver – NYC

 Twin towers

H&H bagels

Magnolia Bakery pastel colored, vanilla buttercream cupcakes.

People watching in Washington Square in fall.

Channa roti from India House in Park Slope.

Bodegas.

Bodega cats.

The Union Square holiday market.

The warm puff from the subway doors on a blustery winter night.

Midtown Comics.

Goodfellas pizza.

The strangers that help carry kids in strollers up or down subway stairs without comment or eye contact.

Manhattan viewed from the BQE.

Tofu basil from Rice Thai Kitchen in Park Slope.

Century 21. But not the communal dressing rooms.

Gospel brunch at Superfine.

D.U.M.B.O.

The Waverly.

Gnocchi at Noodle Pudding.

The holiday lights.

The smell of roasting nuts.

Brownstones.

The water.

Central Park.

The Brooklyn Bridge.

The people that lost their lives. The people who helped save or identify those people who lost their lives.  The people who gave their lives to save others. The people who gave rides or shelter or a hand to people who were lucky enough to not have lost their lives. The people who came together as a community.

The people.

Hey New York,

I still love you.

I’m a 44 something Scorpio who does not at all enjoy getting caught in the rain. I’m a mom to one whirling dervish, a former child and family therapist and reformed social worker. I have fought the monsters called Depression and Addiction for a lifetime. I want to be a part of the kindness movement. I want to be honest and real, sharing my struggles and successes on my path with others navigating their own. I want to lift up other women and be uplifted by them. I want to honor the bits between right and wrong, black and white – the grays, the ish. The place where life is actually lived.

I’ve always loved your way with words. All I have to do is close my eyes and I’m right there with you, breathing in the city I’ve always dreamed of visiting. Thank you for sharing <3

You’ll do the same for me when you make it there someday.
